Since Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich was unveiled back in October 2012 all the Android enthusiasts are eager to have it installed on their devices. Many of the world’s biggest smartphone and tablet manufacturers announced they will offer the new software update sooner or later. Acer is among them and, even though they haven’t officially confirmed it yet, the Android 4.0 ICS firmware update for their Iconia Tab A200 begun rolling in US.

The Iconia Tab A200 users reported on Acer Tablet Forum that they were able to perform an OTA update to Android 4.0.3 ICS. This new firmware version comes to upgrade the Honeycomb 3.2 OS that comes pre-loaded on Iconia A200. The new update bringing Android 4.0.3 ICS on the Acer Iconia Tab A200 is set to bring better battery life, improved performance and a new application for the 2MP camera of the device.

As you probably know Acer Iconia Tab A200 features a 10.1-inch capacitive touchscreen with 16M colors and a resolution of 800 x 1280 pixels and is powered by a dual-core 1 GHz Cortex-A9 CPU based on Nvidia’s Tegra 2 T20 chipset. Acer Iconia Tab A200 comes pre-loaded with Android 3.2 Honeycomb with Acer UI and features 1GB of RAM and 8 or 16GB of internal flash storage, MicroSDHC slot and USB port.

The Taiwan-based company chose not to offer a primary camera mounted on the back of their tabilet, but only a front-facing 2MP camera in order to reduce the production costs. Iconia Tab A200 weighs in 720 grams and measures 260 x 175 x 12.4 mm, while the 3,260mAh battery offers an autonomy of 8 hours of video playback and 400 hours of stand by. The 8GB version has a price of $330, but for an extra $20 you can buy the 16GB slate.

Many of the Iconia Tab A200 complained they haven’t received the Android 4.0.3 Ice Cream Sandwcih update notification and if you are one of them you can try and upgrade your tablet manually. By going to Settings > About tablet > System update > Check now you can find out if the Android ICS 4.0 update is available for your tablet, too. If not all you can do is further wait a couple of days until the update hits more Iconia Tab A200 terminals.
