Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich Update For Nexus S To Arrive In The Next Few Weeks
There have been some rumors about the release date of the official Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update for Nexus S, but now it seems a “trusted source” have confirmed it.
If you haven’t changed your old Google Nexus S with a new-generation smartphone, you would want to wait a little bit more, as the guys at Engaget have some information about a new software update for Google’s developer smartphone. It looks like the predecessor of Galaxy Nexus haven’t been forgotten and it will soon receive the new Android 4.0 ICS.
According to a “trusted source,” Nexus S will finally receive the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich software update and the new firmware version will be available on the terminal in the coming weeks.
Nexus S was the first smartphone to use Android 2.3 Gingerbread and it features a 4.0-inch Super AMOLED display, 1.0 GHz Hummingbird Cortex-A8 CPU, 512 MB of RAM, 16 GB of storage and 5 megapixel camera with autofocus, LED flash and WVGA video recording capabilities.
Even though there are already lots of custom ROMs that allow you to install Android Ice Cream Sandwich on your Nexus S, Google and Samsung will finally bring the official version of the mobile operating system on this device. The best part about this update is that Nexus S will receive the vanilla version of Android 4.0, which leaves the ICS user interface untouched so the performance of the device won’t get affected.
Those who cannot wait until the official launch of Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update for Nexus S, can manually upgrade their devices to an earlier version of the software (which is available since December) by following this link.
Patience is recommended in this case, as a lot of compatibility and stability issues can be solved in three months, and sources say that the Android 4.0 update will arrive in the next couple of weeks. Google Nexus S 4G will also receive the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich software upgrade, but unfortunately we can’t say yet when the firmware update will be available.
