Download Android 3.1 Honeycomb Update For Acer Iconia Tab A500 Now
The owners of a Acer Iconia Tab A500 will be very happy to hear that the Android 3.1 update is now available for free download globally as the company has begun pushing this firmware update last night. The first time the Android 3.1 update became official was at the Google I/O conference when US-bound Motorola Xoom 3G users were given a special treat.
The Acer Iconia Tab A500 users expected this update for quite a while as the Taiwan-based company announced the Android 3.1 firmware shortly after the annual Google I/O event. Android 3.1 Honeycomb brings improved multitasking support, better widget support which can now be resized, general bug fixes, speed enhancements, stability fixes, and USB host device support among others.
Acer’s Iconia Tab A500 becomes the third Android 3.1-powered tablet after the Motorola Xoom, and the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1. If the update didn’t show up on your slate, then you can manually force it by going to Settings, then About Tablet, then System Updates, then Check Now, and if it finds an update then go ahead and download & install Android 3.1.
A major and annoying flaw has been repaired in Android 3.1: the orientation lock is now supported by the lock screen so now you’ll not have to always turn around your tablet. Acer has done a great thing in pushing this update so fast as most other companies with a great experience on Android devices didn’t manage to bring the update so soon.
The Acer Iconia Tab A500 is a 10.1-inch tablet with 1280 x 800 resolution, dual-core 1GHz Nvidia Tegra processor, 16/32GB SSD, 5-megapixel rear camera, HD front camera, WiFi 802.11b/g/n, Bluetooth, HDMI out, 2 x USB 2.0 ports, Ethernet port, and three-cell Li-ion battery among others.
Let us know if you’ve received the Android 3.1 update and if the install process worked as intended.
