Learning about the human anatomy can be fun for some people, but for most students it’s more of a headache than an interesting lecture about the Homo sapiens. I remember anatomy classes from the 9th grade, not so interesting when you only have an old book containing only a 2D picture representing a human body and concentrating on certain parts.
The beauty of learning anatomy today is that the kinds benefit of all sorts of 3d computer models that are a great help bringing the body to life and making it a lot easier to memorize the names of the important human bones, for example. And that’s what BoneLab is about.
The program might be very useful for both kids and curious adults as it allows them to browse all the human bones in three dimensions. The quality of the models is high and you are allowed to rotate and zoom in and out in order to take a closer look from just about any possible angle.
One thing that you should remember is that BoneLab is not an application mean for little children. Not that it contains unsuitable material (in a bad way, I mean), but because it features information that tends to be quite technical with complex and detailed descriptions of the human body. And when I say that I mean it because you can find featured links to Wikipedia that will offer more complex anatomical terms. This aspect makes it a dream came true for students, but also for medical professionals.
When it comes to usage, BoneLab is suited for experienced users as well as for novices having features that won’t make anyone loose their way around. The application displays a 3D skeleton which, like I said, can be moved to in order to be viewed from the front, back and pretty much every angle you might think of. To rotate the skeleton all you have to do is click and drag you mouse in the wanted direction. You will notice a set of tabs. The tabs will in fact balance the program’s information. There is also a Help file for those who need it, but the file is online, so you need to have your internet connection enabled the whole time or at least while you check out the details you need about the application.
In case you are interested in a specific part of the body, you can use the tab that lists all the areas in order to take a closer look at what you desire. In case you know the name of a specific bone and just what to find out where it’s located, you can type the term in the search box and BoneLab will localize it for you. You can also do that with a certain part of the body. Al the bones of the human body are listed and you can click on any of them if you want to add some of you notes. Bare in mind that if you change the name of a bone by accident or just for fun you better remember the original name because it doesn’t return to its normal status. The only thing to undo it is by uninstalling the program and install it once again.
As a conclusion, I must say that I don’t have bad critics because they aren’t. The only thing that can surpass BoneLab is a similar program that features videos, but there aren’t any, at least from what I know. Featuring a great three-dimensional view and a simple navigation, BoneLab is the best way to learn about the human body for those who are interested.
