Download iOS 6 As Of Today
Today will be a buys day for the iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch users, as the last version of Apple’s mobile operating system, iOS 6, will officially become available for download. Once you download iOS 6 you will be able to enjoy over 200 new features and updates. The new firmware update will be available for iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPhone 4S, iPad 2, iPad 3, iPod Touch 4th and 5th generation and Apple TV 3G.
But enough with the chitchat and let’s have a look at the new features the new iOS 6 will bring on your Apple device.
At WWDC 2012 Apple officially announced that the FaceTime calls will now be available through 3G and 4G networks, as well. The Cupertino-based company also unified the Apple IDs for FaceTime and iMessage, so if you receive a call on an iPhone that is connected to FaceTime/iMessage on an iPad tablet, you can answer directly from it. This feature will allow you to use the iDevice to talk to anybody, anytime, without much of an effort.
Apple has also ditched the native Google Maps application and replaced to its proprietary Maps application. The app uses the company’s special maps, has a 3D module and turn-by-turn navigation, it displays traffic information, and it can recalculate your route in case the traffic on a certain street is jammed.
If you weren’t impressed, then you should know that the new Maps application will display info on your LockScreen and Siri can be used to search location or fond a specific restaurant. The information in Lockscreen are updated in real time, allowing the you to use the application without unlocking your device.
The new Maps application in iOS 6 also introduces the FlyOver feature, which allows you to view a 3D module of the maps available in the app. Apple used helicopters and planes to render 3D modules of the cities, and they do look great.
If you were eager to get your hands on the new turn-by-turn navigation system of the company, then I have bad news for those of you how do not own an iPhone 4S, iPad 2 or iPad 3. According to Apple’s official website the turn-by-turn navigation will only be available for the three aforementioned devices and, of course, for the new iPhone 5.
In the new iOS 6 the makers of the iPhone have also introduced a faster version of the Safari web browser. The Browsermark and Sunspider 0.9.1 benchmark tests have indicated that the new Safari browser is 25% than the one in iOS 5. Maybe you would say it’s not much, but we are talking about an important improvement you will notice especially while browsing web pages with lots of content.
Do Not Disturb is a new feature introduced by Apple at WWDC 2012, allowing the iDevice users to hide all the iOS 6 notifications. The function doesn’t block the notifications completely, but only hides the notification banners (including calls), the messages being displayed in Notifications Center in order to be viewed later by the user. The functionality of the Do Not Disturb feature doesn’t stop here, as Apple made a special menu for it in Notofication, where you can set a time frame where it becomes active.
The new iOS 6 allows you to choose to receive notifications from certain contacts while Do Not Disturb is active, and if you wish you can set it to notify you when somebody calls several times.
It was previously rumored that Apple will implement Siri support in iOS 6 for The New iPad tablet, and yet they were confirmed. Apple announced that the virtual assistant will become available for iPad 3, as well. Unlike the iPhone 4S and iPhone 5, the Siri on The New iPad will not be displayed in full screen, but in a small window that can be repositioned anywhere you want.
One of the major new features of iOS 6 is the Facebook integration. The social network will have a special menu in the Settings app of iOS, where you can log and share links and pictures on Facebook. You will also be able to change Facebook status both from the Notification Center and Siri. The Apple developers will now be able to integrate Facebook in their own apps, thus you will bump over the social network almost everywhere.
With all these being said, you can go ahead and check whether the iOS 6 is available in iTuens and if it’s up and ready for your Apple smartphone, tablet, media player or Apple TV. Still, if you are into jailbreaking, we’d recommend you not to update your iDevice to iOS 6 final as a jailbreak solution is not currently available for this version.
