How To Enhance The Maximum Privacy Protection For Safari Web Browser

Safari Private Browsing

Safari web browser has been launched by Apple Incorporated in 2003 and since then it managed to become the 4th most used internet browser behind IE, Chrome and Mozilla Firefox. This post teaches you how to improve and enable the maximum privacy protection for Safari and so you won’t be risking any data leak and the web browser will stop sending info about your internet searches, history and data info that helps companies track your whereabouts on the Internet. Also, you should stop receiving suggested websites and your computer will be more protected against advertisers.

The Safari internet web browsers can easily be re-configured for a higher level of privacy protection and if you compare it to Internet Explorer 9 or Chrome then you might be even thinking why would need to perform such action in the first place.  You can easily improve the Safari for max level of privacy protection by changing the cookies settings, the Google safe browsing options etc. Cookies are files used by internet browsers and advertisers to track your online activity and most of these are usually restricted and used by a single website. However, cookies are gathering info about your online whereabouts like login sessions and toher similar actions. But, there are 3rd party cookie files which are the ones that are keeping track of all the websites you open and launch while online and if you wish to change this then you should follow the instructions listed below:

  • Open Safari and then launch the Preferences panel which can be done by clicking the gear-shaped menu icon. For Mac users click the menu and select Preferences.

  • Now select ‘Privacy’ from the tabs menu and then make sure to check the ‘From Third Parties and Advertisers’ option from the Block Cookies menu. Alternatively you can select to tick the button that says ‘Always’ and your Safari browser will block all the cookies, but this means that you won’t be allowed to log into any other internet web page.

  • Click the ‘Remove all Website Data’ button and this will delete all the existing cookies.

Safari also features the Google Safe Browsing tool which automatically downloads a list of malware and virus infected web pages from Google, as this utility is used also by Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox you will be notified every time you are about to visit a webpage that is infected and Safari won’t open that specific address. To activate this feature, go to Preferences and select the Security tab. Now check the option that says ‘ Warn when visiting a fraudulent website’.

Also, since you are on the Security panel menu, make sure that the ‘Ask before sending a non-secure form to a secure website’ option is enabled, which protects you against privacy theft in case the website administrator didn’t properly protected the login or payment webpages.

The Safari web browser features another tool called ‘do not track’ that tells other websites you wish for your privacy to stay secured and that you don’t wish for your  online activity to be tracked. However, numerous websites won’t listen to it but you can still try to acitvate it. Do it by clicking ‘Advanced’ panel on Preferences, then click on the page-shaped button in the upper left hand side of Preferences. Go to Develop and then click on ‘Send Do Not Track HTTP Header’ setting.

The last thing you need to tweak is the ‘Search Suggestions’, which is the Safari feature that will send all the addresses you have entered in the search box to the default search engine you previously selected. Safari isn’t equipped with disable function for this feature and that’s why we need to tweak it. The Mac users can choose to install ‘Glims for Safari’ and this will allow you to disable Search Suggestions for your web browser. But, if you wish to enable it then you should click on the gear-shaped icon and select the ‘Private Browsing’ link from the drop down menu. Click OK when asked if you’re sure to enable private browsing and from now on whenever you will open a webpage in Safari you should be able to see the ‘PRIVATE’ text listed in the URL address bar of Safari. Please note that if you close Safari the Private Browsing feature will be automatically disabled, which means that every time you launch the web browser you need to activate this feature to prevent Safari from displaying and recording search suggestions.

I think that these were all the tricks that you need in order to configure your Safari browser for maximum privacy protection. If you have other questions then you should the comments box below and post all your concerns.
