HTC Will Overtake RIM As 4th Smartphone Vendor Thanks To Android And Windows Phone 7 Sales

HTC Devices

HTC is one of the companies which have experienced a tremendous growth over the past couple of years. Most of the company’s raise is owed to Google’s Android platform launched less than three years ago. According to a Taiwan-based company, HTC is going to overtake RIM soon on the smartphone market.

Market Intelligence Center’s analysts believe that more than 450 million smartphones will be shipped this year and that HTC will sell more than 40 million handsets. The firm’s report says that HTC sold more than 9.7 million handhelds in the Q1 2011 which is a 192% increase year-over-year.

HTC is the biggest seller on two platforms, Android and Windows Phone 7, and overall is located behind Nokia, Samsung, LG, and RIM.

The same report states that Windows Phone 7 will become the third most popular OS in 2012 with a 17% market share, just 2% below Apple iOS with 19%, while Android will be the leader with 40% market share.

By the end of the year, the leaders of the worldwide smartphone marker will be Android with 38%, Symbian with 23%, and iOS with 18%.

We’ve posted numerous reports all of them confirming that Windows Phone 7 will grow exponentially over the next couple of years, however, analysts might be wrong as we’ve yet to witness great WP7 sales. A couple of days ago it was announced that the Windows Marketplace has reached 25,000 apps, becoming the fastest-growing ever mobile application store. Still the WP7 Marketplace cannot be compared with Apple iOS Store which features 500,000 applications, nor with the Android Market housing more than 200,000 applications.

HTC’s stock has increased by 4% after the release of this report which leaves a big question mark on its authenticity as the Taiwan-based smartphone maker was desperate to increase its “value” due to a significant 19% drop from a couple of months ago.

We are very curious to find out what’s your smartphone and what are you planning to buy in the second half of 2011. Will buy purchase a new Android, the iPhone 5, or a Windows Phone 7 Mango device?
