Alleged iPad 3 Photo Reveals An 8-Megapixel Camera On The Back
Earlier today we presented you a leaked photo that confirms the existence an upgraded dual-core A5X chip on the new iPad 3. Today it’s time to talk about the camera of the new Apple tablet, as the unit appeared in another set of leaked photos. Rumor has it that the new iPad 3 features an 8MP camera.
The leaked photos come form guys at Apple Daily, a Taiwanese tech blog, who compared the older versions of the old Apple tablet with a freshly leaked photo of the iPad 3. As a result, they were able to discover that the iPad 3 has bigger lens which may belong to an 8MP camera. Not long ago, some journalists who got their hands on an iPad 3 case said that the camera slot now has enough room for a bigger and more advanced optic sensor. To be honest, I would have expected Apple to upgrade their tablet’s camera to 5MP and not to 8MP, as today’s rumors indicate.
Last week the guys at MacRumors were lucky enough to get their hands on an iPad 3 display panel and get it under the microscope. Thus they were able to see if the rumors about the 2048 x 1536 resolution of the Retina display are true or not.
First up, the new display looks exactly like the ones used for iPad 2 and iPad and has 9.7 inches. Using the microscope to compare the iPad 3 display in their possession with the one installed on iPad 2 they were able to confirm that the pixels on the Retina display are 4 times smaller than those of the iPad 2 display.
An iPad 2 screen area displayed 4 pixels, while an identical area on the new Retina display of the iPad 3 displayed 16 pixels. Thus, it was confirmed that the new Apple tablet will support a screen resolution of 2048 x 1536, twice bigger than the 1024 x 768 pixels resolution of the iPad 2 and iPad.
The same Taiwanese website claims that Apple will use quad-core A6 chipset instead of a dual-core unit for their new iPad 3, but this rumor was already dismissed. Is not clear whether the Apple slate will be thicker or not, but it is very likely for this to happen because of the bigger camera sensor. We will find out how accurate the rumors are on March 7th or 8th, when, according to the rumors, Apple will hold the iPad 3 launching event.
