Leaked iPad 3 Comparison Pics With The iPad 2 Show Tapered Edges, Bigger Camera, And More

iPad 3 Leaked 01

As we are nearing the iPad 3 launch in early March, it’s natural that more and more details along with pictures are being leaked on the internet. The latest set of images demonstrate that the iPad 3 will indeed be thicker than the iPad by 1-1.5mm. The source who leaked the images has also spoken about some of the purported specs of the iOS tablet.

If you needed even more proof, the iPad 3 will feature a 9.7-inch Retina Display that will have an amazing touchscreen at a resolution of 2,048 x 1,536. Although the processor might be running on quad-core technology, the recent leaks detailing an Apple A5X CPU are enough to confirm that it’s going to be a dual-core CPU.

The catch is that Apple has added an amazing GPU – once again a source talks about the graphics unit. This is very important because the iPad 3 needs a very powerful GPU to sustain that huge resolution. The company certainly didn’t want to bring such a good display right now, but the customers demand it, they want it, and they’re going to get it.

The source underlined the gaming capabilities of this tablet which will keep the same storage configuration: 16GB / 32GB / 64GB even though the case will be bigger. Sadly, there is no LTE support because the market is not big enough, and the technology drains too much battery to be viable right now.

In addition to the tapered edges, the leaked photos also show that the camera sensor is bigger in the iPad 3 which suggests that the tablet will feature an 8-megapixel camera on the back with 1080p video recording. We’ve seen 5-megapixel cameras capable of shooting full HD videos so the new iOS tablet may not get an upgrade to 8-megapixels in order to keep the costs down.

Apple is also testing a smaller iPad that may be called iPad mini. There are little chances that it will be released along with the iPad 3, however, the source said that it may become available during the holidays season this year. The iPad mini will feature a 7-inch touchscreen, a low-voltage ARM CPU, a very powerful GPU, and a huge battery.

Tim Cook is readying a smaller tablet in order to compete against Samsung’s smaller Galaxy Tabs, the Amazon Kindle Fire, and other 7-inch slats. It will be priced under $400 and a wireless keyboard will be available  for the iOS tablet.
