iPhone More Popular On Yahoo This Year Than Kim Kardashian
With each year going by a different topic has gained the No1 rank as most searched text in most important search engines like Google, Bing or Yahoo. But with this year ending a major surprise is going land, as a gadget looks to come in at first place. This has happened only once and corresponded with first year of Sony’s PlayStation 2 review in 2000, so it has been more than 10 years since we have waited to see a non related ” crap ” gaining the No1 in search engines.
We have seen Britney Spears come in first for few years in a role, actually she was in the top spot each year from 2005 to 2008, last year there was an oil spill that was the most searched phrase and in 2009 Michael Jackson was ranked No1 in searches. When i said ” crap ” I really want to pull Michael Jackson out from the context, and you can leave the rest if you want. Apple has unveiled iPhone 4S in October which coincided to iPod’s ascension and speculations about the company’s newest versions of the iPhone. The interest has increased once more when Apple’s co-founder and CEO Steve Jobs stepped down from the company in August and passed away in October few days before 4S’ release.
Regarding the most spread searched issued on Bing in 2011 we can say that the results differ from data collected by Microsoft, also they have compiled the data a bit different from Yahoo, not providing an aggregate top search text or word. But Microsoft has grouped searches in specific categories. For example iPhone 5 which was a rumored model that has yet to be launched came in fourth in the most searched consumer electronics in the back of Playstation, Xbox or Kindle. We tried to understand why this have happened and we think we’ve found the correct answer as Microsoft split iPhone searches by models even though has never done this for the Xbox.
In Yahoo searches iPhone was followed in six of the seven phrases by some tabloid fodder such as Kim Kardashian, Jennifer Lopez, Jennifer Aninston or Lindsey Lohan. In these searches round out the top 10 others topics like American Idol or Osama bin Laden and more so. The most popular mobile search on Yahoo was iPhone 5 and was followed by MLB and Powerball, and in terms of news searches Casey Anthony trial has gained the No1 in the list, which was followed by royal wedding, and the death of Bin Laden.
