New BlackBerry 10 OS Pictures Leaked: Widgets Finally Coming To BlackBerry Smartphones

BlackBerry 10 OS 01

A short time ago, the first picture of BlackBerry 10 OS has been leaked on the web, and this has revived the hopes of BlackBerry fans everywhere. And if that wasn’t enough for the more pessimistic fans, then here is some more BlackBerry 10 material which has been recently leaked on the web. CrackBerry has received an email with a PDF which looks like a training material for Research In Motion’s partners.

This may or may not be a controlled leak, but what is certain is the fact that BlackBerry OS 10 is far from being released on the market. There is still of work that needs to be done, but that’s not why we’re here today – we’re here to see what is going to be new in BlackBerry 10.

The first thing that we can expect in BlackBerry 10 is the existence of a new user interface. The UI looks fresh and amazing, however, we cannot help but to say that it looks very familiar. The BB 10 UI will finally bring widgets to BlackBerry smartphones, a feature that will definitely improve the user experience. The familiar part comes from the fact that BlackBerry’s widgets look a lot like Windows Phone 7′s Live Tiles. A lot!

Despite the fact that the BlackBerry 10 OS images are presented on the Torch 9860 and 9810, we’re pretty sure that these smartphones are not going to support the operating system, but RIM just needed some devices to show off the new software.

Although the UI is similar to the one found on the BlackBerry PlayBook, RIM added the Live Tiles-like widgets in order to make the OS more “suitable” for a smartphone experience.

Folders will still be present in BB 10, and users will be able to group applications in a single folder. The icon will display icons from inside apps, while the Photo folder will display photos from inside albums. In addition, the Clock app will display the current time as well as the time when the next alarm will go off. This sounds like RIM took the whole Live Tile concept to the next level which is a good thing, and shows that the company didn’t actually steal something – it just made something better.

It appears that BlackBerry 10 will have a lot of gaming potential and RIM will finally concentrate on mobile gaming as well. Cut The Rope will be present as a launch title as seen in the PDF document.

Another good addition in BB 10 OS is the new Universal Inbox which is already available in PlayBook 2.0 OS. A new email app will be available along with a new calling app and “display screen.” It appears that video conferences will play a big part in this new operating system as there are lots of references to front-facing cameras.

Well, BlackBerry 10 looks very promising, but some will wonder whether RIM is a little too late to the party. By the time a BB 10 device will be released, Microsoft would have already launched Windows Phone 8, while Apple and Google would have already improved iOS, respectively Android.

It’s a nice feeling to know that RIM is still working at a new operating system after the rumor mill suggested that the company will be sold to the highest bidder. A new CEO has been appointed recently, and we will monitor the company’s plans for the future closely. The end of 2012 will be very interesting so stay tuned for more details.
